Kaizer Chiefs confirm Leonardo Castro capture from Mamelodi Sundowns

Kaizer Chiefs have concluded the signing of Mamelodi Sundowns striker Leonardo Castro, the PSL giants confirmed on Saturday.

The move has long been anticipated, with the Colombian forward lacking game time at Sundowns as the goals dried up.

"Chiefs and Sundowns have finalised the agreement and Castro will join Chiefs in January," the AmaKhosi tweeted on their @KaizerChiefs handle.

He joins Venezuelan forward Gustavo Paez and former Bafana Bafana striker Bernard Parker as striking options at the club, and will be a welcome addition to a striking unit that has been blunt so far this season.

Sundowns are set to replace the 28-year-old with Bolivian striker Gilbert Alvarez, although they may also make another move for New Zealander Jeremy Brockie and test SuperSport United's resolve again.

Journeyman forward Castro joined Sundowns in 2015 and played an instrumental role in them lifting the CAF Champions League in 2016.

He was part of a trusted trio of attacking players that also included Keagan Dolly (now with Montpellier in Ligue 1) and Khama Billiat, who were dubbed 'CBD'.

Castro also won the Absa Premiership, Telkom Knockout and CAF Super Cup during his stay at Chloorkop.
