Sarri has pneumonia ahead of Juventus' opener

ESPN FC's Matteo Bonetti and Steve Nicol have a difference of opinion on whether or not Maurizio Sarri's methodologies are innovative.

Juventus manager Maurizio Sarri did not conduct training due to being diagnosed with pneumonia, the club said on Monday.

Sarri, 60, has been battling the flu and missed a friendly match on Saturday against third-tier side Triestina.  Eight-time defending Serie A champions Juventus open up their season against Parma on Saturday.

"Maurizio Sarri, after having observed rest over the weekend, was at the JTC Continassa today where he coordinated the work of his staff. Unfortunately, he could not conduct the training on the field due to the persistence of his flu, which struck him over the course of last week," the club revealed in a statement

Juventus did not state Sarri's status against Parma, which would be his first league match in charge of the defending Italian champions since leaving Chelsea and replacing Massimiliano Allegri in June.

Juventus' second match of the season will be against Napoli, where Sarri managed from 2015-18.
