Gianluigi Buffon can decide for himself whether he wants to play on another season and Juventus will back whatever decision he takes, according to the Serie A club's general manager Giuseppe Marotta.
Buffon, who turned 40 at the weekend, was in fine form as he made his comeback following an almost two-month injury absence in his side's 1-0 Coppa Italia semifinal win over Atalanta on Tuesday night.
He saved a penalty from Papu Gomez to help give the Bianconeri the edge in the two-legged tie, and Marotta says there is no reason why the club would not be willing to offer The Best FIFA Goalkeeper of 2017 an extension.
"I would like to state that we are all united, in all aspects, and it is important that a champion like he reflects in total calm," Marotta told RAI television. "It's important that he's now back in the squad and that he's back wearing the Juve shirt tonight.
"We've always said that the decision is up to him. His meeting with the president will be based on great reciprocal respect."
Marotta did, on the other hand, rule out a move for Sassuolo's Matteo Politano, who had been linked with Juventus or Napoli this winter.
"He's a Sassuolo player and they have no necessity to let their players go, considering that they have strong financial foundations," he said. "It's true that we've had a look at it these days, considering the injury to [Juan] Cuadrado, but Politano's destiny will not be tied to us."
