Juventus' Andrea Barzagli ruled out for two months with shoulder injury

Juventus will be without defender Andrea Barzagli until 2017 due to a shoulder injury.

Barzagli, 35, was forced to pull out of the Italy squad for the World Cup qualifier in Liechtenstein on Saturday and the friendly with Germany three days later due to the injury, which he picked up during Juve's 2-1 win over Chievo at the weekend.

Tests carried out by the Serie A club have confirmed the extent of the damage, which means the centre-back will be ruled out for two months.

"Further examinations at J-Medical today have confirmed the scale of the shoulder injury sustained by Andrea Barzagli five minutes into Sunday's victory over Chievo in Verona," a Juve statement read.

"The defender's arm will be in a sling for the next four weeks with a return to action scheduled for approximately two months' time."

Barzagli joins fellow defender Giorgio Chiellini on the sidelines, while Leonardo Bonucci was forced to replace him in the Chievo game despite carrying a knock he had picked up in the midweek 1-1 Champions League draw with Lyon.

Bonucci has been called up by Italy and should be fit for Juve coach Massimiliano Allegri after the international break, while Chiellini is also expected to return for the club's clash with Pescara on Nov. 19.

Allegri has Medhi Benatia and Daniele Rugani as alternatives and may press on with his use of a four-man defensive line in Barzagli's absence.
