Juventus defender Patrice Evra wants more backing from supporters

Patrice Evra has urged Juventus fans to get behind the team as they bid to win the Champions League.

There were boos and whistles from the crowd when Juve failed to take an opportunity to seal qualification when they were held to a 1-1 home draw by Lyon on Wednesday.

And Evra told Sky Sport Italia: "My message to the fans is simple. I'm not looking for excuses and I am not saying they are not behind us, but what I would ask for is that they support us a bit more.

"I've played in grounds where the fans would always chant their team's name at the final whistle.

"If somebody doesn't control the ball well and they immediately hear whistles, it doesn't help.

"I want the fans to be with us to the end when we lift this trophy up, because I am convinced we will do it and they will be happy with us."

Juve can progress to the knockout stages with a win in Sevilla or victory over Dinamo Zagreb in their final group game if they fail to do so.

"All of us would have liked to have already reached the round of 16 and the draw was not the result we wanted, but now what matter is that we qualify and we can still do that by winning the group," Evra said.

"We need to beat Sevilla and Dinamo to show that this is our competition.

"I'm calm, because our aim is to win the league and to try to win the Champions League, and now we have got everything it takes to do it -- this is the truth."
