Juventus' Stefano Sturaro close to signing new deal - agent

Juventus midfielder Stefano Sturaro is set to sign a new contract with the Serie A club, who want him at the centre of their project for the future, according to the player's agent.

Sturaro, 23, has been restricted to just four substitute appearances for Juve this season, with a knee injury over the summer setting him back.

The Italy international, nevertheless, has a prominent role to play at the club, according to Carlo Volpi, who expects his client to stay with the Bianconeri for many years to come.

"There's an important project being built around him," Volpi told tuttojuve.com. "The club have demonstrated with facts and not with words.

"Stefano has to show that he can repay this faith each year that he is in Turin. At Juventus, it is the man who comes before the footballer. When his renewal is agreed, everybody will know about it."

Injury forced Sturaro out of new Italy coach Gian Piero Ventura's first two squad selections, but Volpi expects him to be back with the national team in the near future.

"Stefano's dream is to be able to wear an Italy shirt again and there is respect from Ventura, who I have known for 20 years," he said. "He knows football very well and has been able to do well thanks to his ability because nobody has gifted him anything.

"Coaches always make decisions they believe to be the best in that moment. If Stefano is ready in that given moment then it would be a huge satisfaction for him."

Sturaro could be given a chance in the Juve midfield against Lyon on Wednesday, with Mario Lemina suspended, although Volpi is not taking anything for granted.

"[Juve coach Massimiliano] Allegri surprises me all the time," he said. "That means that nobody on the outside is able to see what is happening during the week in training. I really don't know whether Stefano will play tomorrow or not. We are talking about players [at Juve] who are the best in the world in their position."
