Giorgio Chiellini and Leonardo Bonucci question Juventus fans' expectations

Juventus defender Giorgio Chiellini and Leonardo Bonucci have both complained about the exaggerated expectations of their club's fans after Tuesday night's goalless draw with Sevilla in the Champions League.

The Bianconeri failed to win for the first time this season after registering three comfortable victories in Serie A, and both Chiellini and Bonucci feel the fans have put the bar too high.

"Within the dressing room, we are perfectly aware of the difficulties we are going to face game by game," Chiellini said.

"Yet on the outside, it seems like everything's being taken for granted and that is why [coach Massimiliano] Allegri is rightly keeping everybody on their toes because we keep hearing 'you've already won the league, and in the Champions League you are Barcelona.'

"That could see you lose the tension and this is not part of Juve because, with all respect for Real Madrid, who can win 6-2, or AC Milan when they had Ronaldinho who would win 5-0, Juve have to win 1-0 or 2-0 -- just look at this club's history.

"That doesn't mean that we don't try to win 3-0, but we are a team who, when we take the lead, we must focus on not conceding. We are not and we will never be Real, we have different characteristics."

With that in mind, Bonucci believes the Juve fans should show more patience than they did at the Juventus Stadium on Tuesday.

"I was disappointed with the fans' attitude," he told La Gazzetta dello Sport. "The team should be supported, yet you could hear people grumbling after just 20 minutes.

"There are other sides, like us, who are favourites for the Champions League. We need to treat this Champions League like a dream because that would take some pressure off, while at the same time it is an objective."
