Juventus must not obsess over Champions League - Allegri

Juventus coach Massimiliano Allegri has said winning Serie A for a fifth year in a row is his priority and the Champions League would just be a bonus, after picking up the award for coach of the year last season.

The Bianconeri are three points clear of Napoli at the top of Serie A, and after a recent 15-game winning streak they are on course to defend their title once again.

They travel to Bayern Munich in the round of 16 in the Champions League next week having been held to a 2-2 draw at home in the first leg, meaning their progress to a second straight final is hanging in the balance.

While Allegri is not ruling out a famous win at the Allianz Arena, he also does not want his side's success or failure this season to be determined by how well they do next Wednesday night.

"It's not impossible with Bayern, I agree, but they are still one of the favourites to win the Champions League," Allegri said. "Even if they've not been winning recently that doesn't mean they're not on great shape -- they've still been creating lots of chances.

"We must not turn the Champions League into an obsession. It has to remain just a dream. We've got to try to pull off a coup in Munich, and that's not going to be easy."

Before then, Juve face a strong Sassuolo side who, after a 2-0 win over AC Milan at the weekend, are chasing the Rossoneri for a place in Europe next season.

Just three points separate Eusebio Di Francesco's men from Sinisa Mihajlovic's Milan and Allegri does not therefore expect them to turn up at the Juventus Stadium and merely look to avoid defeat.

"Sassuolo have beaten all of the top teams in the league this season, including us in the first half of the season," he told Sky Sport Italia. "I just hope they've finished [beating top teams] now. It's going to be an important game, as are all of the last ten. Sassuolo are in great shape and they're playing good football."

Victory would nevertheless leave Juve in pole position for the one title that, unlike the Champions League, has become an obsession in Turin.

"It's going to be a battle with Napoli, who are playing an extraordinary season, and Roma, who have great quality," Allegri said. "We're ahead and we've got to match their rhythm if we want to win a fifth straight Scudetto, which would be an historic achievement."
