Leonardo Bonucci scathing about Juventus' display vs. Inter Milan

Juventus defender Leonardo Bonucci said his side must take a "long, hard look at ourselves" after the Bianconeri had to go to penalties to beat Inter Milan and reach the final of the Coppa Italia on Wednesday night.

Leading 3-0 from the first leg of their semifinal tie, Juve were beaten 3-0 by the Nerazzurri at the San Siro, but triumphed on penalties to book their place in the final, where they will face AC Milan on May 21.

Juve coach Massimiliano Allegri admitted his side had "not played at all for 70 minutes" and threatened he would have sent the players into a training camp for punishment had they thrown the tie away.

"It happened to me once with AC Milan when we won 4-0 against Arsenal in the first leg [of a Champions League round-of-16 tie] and at half-time in London, we were 3-0 down," Allegri said. "If we had gone out, there would have been the risk I would have taken everybody into a training camp.

"It would have been a crying shame to go out, without taking anything away from Inter. Of course, I should have prepared the game better."

Bonucci concurred with his coach's assessment of an off-colour performance.

"This is the worst game since I joined Juve six years ago," the 28-year-old said to RAI television. "We made our own lives difficult. It's horrible to say it, but we've all got to take a long, hard look at ourselves.

"We were lucky to take it to penalties, then it was a lottery. We got our approach to the game completely wrong. Inter had nothing to lose and they threw everything forward, and we just made things easy for them."

Despite the large margin of victory, Inter will not be heading to Rome for the final, much to the disappointment of their coach Roberto Mancini.

"We deserved to go to the final," he said. "I'm really sorry for my lads -- they were fantastic. We're trying to do the best we can and we're all disappointed to have dropped so many points [in the league], but this is football. I hope this game gives us back our belief and strength to finish third."

The performance certainly encouraged Inter president Erick Thohir, who said he was proud of the way the team bounced back from defeat to Juve in the league at the weekend.

"That's the Inter I want, the team I've always believed in, a team that can fight, play with character and wear the Nerazzurri shirt with pride," he said on his club's official website. "Well done lads, this is the way forward. Let's keep it up now. I'm proud of you."
