Juventus want Manuel Pellegrini if Max Allegri leaves for Chelsea - sources

Should Max Allegri, left, depart Juventus this summer, Manuel Pellegrini, right, would be the ideal replacement, sources say.

Juventus have identified outgoing Manchester City manager Manuel Pellegrini as Massimiliano Allegri's replacement if the Italian decides to leave the club for Chelsea, sources have told ESPN FC.

Pellegrini will himself be replaced by Pep Guardiola in what is likely to be a summer of major managerial moves, and Chelsea's pursuit of a long-term successor to Jose Mourinho -- still most likely Antonio Conte -- could well trigger many other changes.

Allegri's representative Giovanni Branchini said on Monday he expects the 48-year-old to stay in Turin, but that has not ended Chelsea's interest nor prevented Juventus making contingency plans just in case.

ESPN FC's Raphael Honigstein and Gab Marcotti look ahead to the Champions League clash between Juventus and Bayern Munich.

The Serie A champions see Pellegrini as an ideal fit to replace Allegri, especially for his technical coaching qualities and the way he oversees squads, sources said.

At the same time, many in Italian football and among the Juve hierarchy still feel that Allegri's camp have primarily been using the Chelsea for contract leverage, and see former Juve boss and current Italian national manager Conte as a far likelier appointment at Stamford Bridge for the start of the 2016-17 season.
