Juventus' Sami Khedira, Patrice Evra major doubts for Manchester City tie

Sami Khedira and Patrice Evra both look set to miss Juventus' Champions League clash with Manchester City on Wednesday, although coach Massimiliano Allegri insists he is not to blame for his side's injury problems.

Khedira, 28, missed Juve's 1-0 Serie A win over AC Milan on Saturday with a muscle injury he picked up while on international duty with Germany.

According to a statement on the club's official website, the midfielder is to "train separately" all week, effectively ruling him out of Wednesday's game at the Juventus Stadium.

Evra, 34, "suffered a light twisted ankle during last night's game with Milan and his condition will be monitored over the course of the coming days," the statement added, also making the full-back a doubt for the City tie.

Hernanes, who is suspended for the next two Champions League games anyway, is struggling with an adductor muscle problem, while Martin Caceres is carrying a thigh strain.

With Claudio Marchisio spending a long period on the sidelines earlier this season, blame has been directed at Allegri for overworking his players in training, although he has once again shrugged off the criticism.

"We have had a couple more injuries than last year and we've analysed the players who have been struck, and things are pretty clear," Allegri said at a news conference. "We've had 16 injuries -- 11 have been muscular and five due to being overburdened.

"Last year, we had 11 injuries at this stage, of which 10 were muscular and one due to being overburdened. Last year, we had five players out for over 30 days. This year we have had only two.

"Looking at this data, we're no worse off than anybody else -- in fact we're in midtable. But people like to say that Allegri's team work badly and are full of injuries. Well, all I look at are the results."

Allegri will have been encouraged by the performance of Alex Sandro in Saturday's win, with the left-back putting in arguably his best display since his €26 million summer arrival from Porto, providing the assist for Paulo Dybala's decisive goal.

He is likely to start on Wednesday, when Juve need a win to be sure of their passage to the last 16 of the Champions League, although a draw or even a defeat would still be enough if Sevilla fail to win at Borussia Monchengladbach.
