Arturo Vidal a doubt for Juventus' trip to Monaco with tonsillitis

Arturo Vidal is a doubt for Juventus' trip to Monaco for the second leg of their Champions League quarterfinal tie on Wednesday night due to tonsillitis.

Vidal, 27, gave the Bianconeri a 1-0 advantage with a penalty, but was unable to take part in training on Monday due to an illness which has struck him just when he was starting to show glimpses of his best form.

The Chilean now may not even make the trip to Monaco if he cannot prove his fitness ahead of the game.

Earlier this year, Vidal had to be taken to hospital due to a bout of acute tonsillitis, forcing him to miss the clash with Hellas Verona. That was one of only six Serie A games that Vidal has missed this season.

However, another absence would complicate coach Massimiliano Allegri's plans as, with Paul Pogba still sidelined, his only alternatives would be Stefano Sturaro or Simone Padoin.

Alternatively, he could recall Andrea Barzagli at the heart of a five-man defence in a bid to hold on to their lead against the Ligue 1 side.
