Patrice Evra: Alex Ferguson believes I'd make a 'great coach' like Ryan Giggs

Patrice Evra has told Canal+ his former Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson has tipped him to be a "great coach" when the France international hangs up his boots.

Evra spent seven years under Ferguson at United, winning five Premier League titles and the 2007-08 Champions League.

The 33-year-old was part of United's English top-flight winning side of 2012-13, the last Ferguson fashioned in his 27-year tenure at Old Trafford before retiring.

And the left-back, who joined Juventus in 2014, revealed the legendary United boss had given him encouragement to head to the dugout once he leaves the pitch for good.

Evra said: "There are strange feelings now that I didn't have at the start. Ferguson, before he left, called me into his office. He said to me, 'Pat, I'm going to tell you something very important. There are two players who'll be great coaches in this team, that's Ryan Giggs and you.'

"I have passed some of the badges as a coach in Manchester. I do everything slowly. I want to get my coaching badges. We'll see after that."

Evra, who will return to former club Monaco with Juve for the second leg of their Champions League quarterfinal tie on Wednesday, has managed to establish himself in Turin and maintain the faith of national team boss Didier Deschamps, despite his advancing years.

He acknowledged Juve's rigourous training schedule had helped him keep in shape and ahead of his rivals.

"Juve is difficult, but it suits my mentality," said Evra, who started his professional career at Monaco under former Juve midfielder Deschamps.

"He loves Juve. He told me to go for it. It's great, but he didn't tell me about preseason! For that, I give him a thumbs-up. It's incredible, I have never trained like that during my whole career. At Manchester United, it was holidays, but you win. Great holidays... Here, it's like a bottle of wine. The older you get, the better it tastes."
