Arturo Vidal unhappy with Juventus exclusion vs. Atalanta - report

Arturo Vidal is reported to be unhappy at being left out of Juventus' squad for the clash with Atalanta on Friday night, even if the official reason for his exclusion is a groin injury.

Criticism was being levelled at the Chilean last weekend when he missed a penalty in a 2-2 draw with Cesena.

It was the second important penalty Vidal has missed this season after failing to score against Olympiakos in the Champions League -- a miss which meant Juve still needed a point from their final group game against Atletico Madrid to progress to the knockout stages of the competition.

Head coach Massimiliano Allegri has now chosen to rest the 27-year-old on Friday night in a bid to have him fit and at his best to face Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League on Tuesday -- despite Vidal being eager to take part.

"I want to play," he is quoted by La Stampa as having told Allegri, who reportedly replied "I decide."

The pair were reported by La Gazzetta dello Sport to have had an argument at the club's Vinovo training ground on Thursday.

A groin injury was expected to keep Vidal in the treatment room, but instead he was out with his teammates wanting to prove he is fit to play.

He was not convincing Allegri, though, who is also considering giving Paul Pogba a rest against Atalanta in order to have him at full strength for arguably the most important of the Bianconeri's two games in the coming week.

With that in mind, Allegri was keen to clarify his comments in an interview with Germany's Sport Bild magazine in which he appeared to say his side would play for a goalless draw at the Juventus Stadium on Tuesday.

"What I said was that it is crucial we don't concede," Allegri said at a news conference. "That's because it's not just a one-off game but a tie over 180 minutes.

"While we've got to win it, if we are unable to do that, then it's better to draw 0-0 than 1-1 because our aim is to go through and if you don't concede at home, you're already a step ahead."
