Juventus' Paul Pogba: My goal is to become best player in the world

Paul Pogba says he will not stop until he is the "best player in the world", adding that his trophy for being voted the best young player at the 2014 World Cup is "just the start."

In an interview with FIFA.com, the 21-year-old Juventus midfielder showed no shyness in outlining his plans to become not only the leader in his position, but the best in the game.

Pogba -- who recently signed a five-year deal to stay at the Bianconeri until 2019 -- insists parallels with legends of the game to have been given the same award are not enough, as he wants to become better than all of them.

"I can't predict the future, but I'll do everything to win many more trophies," he said. "I'll continue working hard. My goal is to be the best player in the world."

Since arriving at Juventus in the summer of 2012, Pogba has gone from strength to strength. Given only limited opportunities at Manchester United, he was instead allowed to flourish for the Bianconeri, playing an integral part in back-to-back scudetto triumphs.

Glory as captain of France at the Under-20 World Cup in 2013 was a springboard to a place in the senior France fold, and he is now as much a regular for his country as he is for his club.

At the World Cup this summer, Pogba inspired Les Bleus to the quarterfinals, earning the plaudits and the latest trophy to add to his collection as the tournament's best young player. There is plenty of room in his trophy cabinet yet, however, with Pogba not content to sit on past achievements.

"This prize is a very good thing to have, but I need to keep progressing and perform well in every game," said the Juve midfielder. "I think there are lots of players still better than me. I try to do my job and be the best I possibly can.

"There are lots of midfielders I admire and watching them helps me improve. I could mention, for example, Yaya Toure, who has a similar size and physique to me but more experience. We have more or less the same playing style, even if he's a bit more attacking than me.

"But, like I said, this is just the start and I think the only obstacle that might stop me from continually reaching higher is myself. I need to keep progressing and I have to always want more."

Pogba is aiming high, and wants to surpass the achievements of previous winners of the World Cup's Young Player Award, including Thomas Muller, Pele and Franz Beckenbauer.

"It's not that I don't feel like I belong in the same category -- it's just that I want to be even better than them," Pogba said while smiling. "That's one of my goals and winning this prize allows me to take another step.

"I always want more. It's never enough; you have to keep going. I'm a winner and I don't like to lose. I always set myself new objectives and new challenges. That's what makes me progress and I need to keep that mentality. That's just the way I am."

Wanting more is what inspired Pogba to turn his back on United and seek a new adventure in Italy. He nevertheless looks back on his time in Manchester fondly, saying it was there that he realised he had a place among the world's best.

"Each change of club has been important: firstly Le Havre, then Manchester United and after that Juventus," he added. "The fact that I got to discover high-level football and share a dressing room with great players was a turning point. That gave me the desire to be one of the greats."
