Conte's Juve future remains undecided

Antonio Conte praised Roma's challenge at the top of Serie A for spurring his Juventus side on to their incredible points haul this season.

Juventus coach Antonio Conte has raised doubts about his future in charge of the club by claiming he may have taken them as far as he can.

Speaking after Juve moved onto 99 points for the season with a 1-0 win at Roma on Sunday evening, Conte was far from convinced about there being a positive outcome when he holds talks with the Turin club over a contract extension in the coming days or weeks.

"I've asked so much of these players and I've given everything I had to this team," Conte said at a news conference. "It's going to be incredibly difficult to improve this Juve. I don't want to mislead any of the fans because this Juve side is good enough to reach the last 16 of the Champions League or the quarterfinals at best.

"We will clarify things in the next few days, but I'm not the kind of person who would take a year-long sabbatical. If I were to leave Juve, I would take a look around and evaluate any potentially intriguing offers. Whatever happens, I will always be a friend of the Agnelli family, of [general manager] Beppe Marotta and [director of sport] Fabio Paratici."

Conte has guided Juventus to three straight Serie A titles after they had finished the two seasons prior to his arrival in seventh place. He also led them to the quarterfinals of the Champions League last season and the semifinals of the Europa League this year.

He has a contract until 2015 which the Bianconeri are keen to extend, although the signs are increasing that he has reached the end of the line.

Current Real Madrid assistant coach and former Juventus midfielder Zinedine Zidane has already been touted as a potential replacement.

"That's a question to ask Marotta," Conte said. "Zizou is like a brother to me. We won so much together and he's a fantastic lad. I'm pleased he's assisting [Carlo] Ancelotti at Madrid, and I wish him all the best."
