With Andrea Pirlo back to his sublime best in Juventus’ 3-2 win over AC Milan on Sunday night, rumours over the future of a player whose contract expires in the summer are once again intensifying.
• Rzouki: Juve struggle
Juve’s general manager Beppe Marotta said last month that his club were planning to offer Pirlo, 34, a new deal in the new year.
However, former Chelsea player and manager Gianluca Vialli has suggested that the deep-lying playmaker’s future may lie outside of Turin by linking him with a move to the Premier League.
Speaking in his capacity as a pundit on Sky Italia, Vialli said: “I’ve just received some rumours from London [that say] there is contact between Andrea Pirlo and Tottenham for next season.”
Pirlo was in fine form against Milan on Sunday, curling one free-kick past Christian Abbiati and another against the crossbar, allowing Giorgio Chiellini to hammer home the rebound.
And the midfielder’s performance may bring more urgency to his contract talks with Juve, even if he has never hidden the fact that he feels at home in Turin for as long as he is wanted.
