Leonardo and former Brazil coach Luiz Felipe Scolari are among a host of candidates to succeed Javier Aguirre as coach of Japan, Japanese media are reporting.

Scolari, who won the trophy in 2002, resigned from the Brazil national team position after the 2014 World Cup and has a host of experience with Portugal, Premier League side Chelsea, Bunyodkor of Uzbekistan and Brazilian club Palmeiras.

Leonardo, 45, has been out of football since resigning his role as Paris Saint-Germain's sporting director in July 2013.

However, the former Brazil international, who spent two years as a player in Japan with Kashima Antlers between 1994 and 1996, is in line to replace Aguirre.

The Mexican, 56, was sacked on Tuesday after it was revealed he and some 40 other people are suspected of being involved in fixing a match between Levante and Real Zaragoza in May 2011 when Aguirre was coach of the latter.
