Javier Aguirre will discuss match-fixing allegations with media before Dec. 29

Javier Aguirre will hold a news conference before Dec. 29 to discuss Spain's match-fixing allegations against him, the Japan Football Association said on Monday.

The precise date of the conference was not given, but Japan and Spanish media reported that it would be held prior to the team's Dec. 29 training sessions for the Asian Cup. Aguirre has not spoken about the match-fixing allegations since they were made public on Dec. 15.

JFA technical director Hiromi Hara said he wanted to hold the conference to "avoid distractions," according to Kyodo news agency.

Manchester United midfielder Ander Herrera, Atletico Madrid captain Gabi and Japan coach Javier Aguirre have all been named as defendants by Spanish prosecutors in an alleged case of match-fixing involving a game in La Liga in the 2010-11 season.

Spain's anti-corruption prosecutor, Alejandro Luzon, filed the case last week following an investigation into Real Zaragoza's vital 2-1 victory at Levante on the final day of the 2010-11 campaign -- a result that saw Zaragoza stay in the Spanish top flight. Aguirre was Zaragoza's coach at the time.

Aguirre claimed innocence over the allegations on Dec. 5, telling JFA lawyer Yutaka Miyoshi that he was "very angry, and that he has never done such a thing as a professional football coach," while the JFA has backed the coach.
