Mark Wilmots quits Elephants after World Cup failure

Ivory Coast are on the lookout for a new head coach after Mark Wilmots left the post in the wake of the Elephants' failure to qualify for the 2018 World Cup.

The former Belgium international and coach only took the job six months ago, replacing Michael Dussuyer, but along with the Ivorian Football Federation has now "amicably agreed to end their collaboration".

This comes after Ivory Coast lost 2-0 to Morocco in Abidjan on Saturday to miss out on top spot in Group C -- and ultimately a ticket to Russia.

It was the first time they had missed out on World Cup qualification since 2002, despite having global stars like Serge Aurier, Franck Kessie and Wilfried Zaha on their roster.
