The Roma attacker, 26, will join Galatasaray forward Didier Drogba at the sharp end of the African nation's lineup.

The Elephants' squad will also include Manchester City's Yaya Toure and players with extensive experience of European football such as Didier Zokora and Yaya's brother, Kolo Toure.

"We can match a lot of big teams," he said. "We have players playing at big clubs, who are a match for great players. We can do it.

"Sabri Lamouchi has come along with a great attitude, he knows how to handle the squad. We're all motivated.

"We have a chance of getting through the first round, and we'll do all we can to do that."

The former Arsenal forward struggled during his two seasons in England between 2011 and 2013, and has scored eight goals in 21 games with the Giallorossi since his move last summer.

Gervinho has netted 13 goals in 52 appearances for the national side since his 2007 debut.
