Sebastian Giovinco's omissions from the Italy squad are 'absurd' - agent

Sebastian Giovinco's agent has said it's "absurd" that the Toronto FC star continues to be overlooked for the Italy national team.

Giovani scored twice on Sunday -- including yet another free kick -- to lift MLS-leading Toronto to a 3-1 over the rival Montreal Impact. The brace gives him 15 goals on the season, his third in MLS since leaving Juventus.

"It's true that things are going great, but Giovinco isn't a novelty," his agent Andrea D'Amico told Tuttomercatoweb. "He's scored over 60 goals in the last two-and-a-half years, an extraordinary return no matter what the competition is."

But the "Atomic Ant" hasn't played for the national team since October 2015 and was again left out of Italy's squad for upcoming World Cup qualifiers against Spain and Israel.

Roma's Lorenzo Pellegrini and Juventus' Federico Bernardeschi were both called in despite not starting in either of their teams' games this season, decisions that D'Amico questioned.

"I find it absurd," he added. "It's a shame that a player with his skill, with his characteristics and his eye for goal isn't called.

"Giovinco knows how to score in every way, even from free kicks, he's a starter for his club and an absolute star in MLS.

"I don't understand why players on the bench for Italian teams are getting called up instead, but sadly the story is always the same lately."
