Giorgio Chiellini leaves Italy squad after picking up injury in training

Italy will be without Giorgio Chiellini for Sunday's World Cup qualifier against Macedonia.

Chiellini, who was suspended for the draw with Spain on Thursday, will not travel with the team after picking up a knock to his right calf in training.

Italy confirmed that the defender would return to Juventus on Friday.

Manager Giampiero Ventura called up Torino's Marco Benassi, who had been training with the Italy under-21s, as a replacement for Sunday's game in Skopje.

Italy will also be without Riccardo Montolivo and Graziano Pelle against Macedonia.

AC Milan's Montolivo suffered a serious knee injury against Spain on Thursday and is set for surgery, while Pelle was dismissed for disciplinary reasons.
