Mario Balotelli has 'huge technical potential' - Cesare Prandelli

Former Italy coach Cesare Prandelli has said he knows how to get the best out of Liverpool's Mario Balotelli, leading to speculation that he would make a bid for forward should he return to management this summer.

Prandelli was in charge of Italy at Euro 2012, when Balotelli was one of the stars of the tournament as the Squadra Azzurra reached the final, where they were beaten by Spain.

Since then, Balotelli's career has not followed the trajectory expected by many, but Prandelli says the 25-year-old is a greater asset to the team than it has often been suggested.

"He's not difficult to manage at all," Prandelli said according to reports by tuttomercatoweb.com.

"That's because he's not a bad lad, nor an uncontrollable footballer.

"I've always believed that he has huge technical potential, but clearly football is not a priority for him and therefore he's been lacking motivation."

Prandelli -- who has held talks with Lazio about becoming their coach next season -- remained tight-lipped about his chances of replacing Simone Inzaghi on the Biancocelesti bench, he did however confirm he has not had any contact with Atalanta, who are also reportedly interested in him.

"My name's been linked with Atalanta in recent weeks... all I can say is it is a real honour to be linked with such a big club, but there has never been any contact," he said. "The club have also confirmed this.

"As for Lazio, on the other hand, I'm not going to say anything out of respect of the president and the club, who are making their necessary evaluations on this issue."
