Roberto Mancini hopes to take charge of Italy later in managerial career

Inter Milan coach Roberto Mancini has said he wants take charge of Italy one day.

Speaking to Sky Sport Italia the 51-year-old former Manchester City boss said it was something he aspired to do after more time in club management.

"I'm still young, so let's wait and see," he added. "Of course, after many clubs, I would like it."

Mancini won the Serie A title three times in his first spell with Inter and led City to the Premier League title. He has also won the Coppa Italia four times, the FA Cup and the Turkish Cup.

As a player, he won the Cup Winners' Cup with both Sampdoria and Lazio, with whom he also won one of his Coppa Italia titles as a coach.

"I had three beautiful years there [as a player]," he said. "Lazio were building a very strong side, and they wanted to win things.

"They were possibly the best years Lazio ever had, together with those under Tommaso Maestrelli. I'd say Lazio were the best team I played for. Maybe we didn't win enough given the quality."

And recalling a key moment during his days at Sampdoria, he said: "When [Gianluca] Vialli left, I cried.

"We were at a restaurant and he said he was going to the president because there was a chance he could be sold to Juve. We always hoped that the president would change his mind but, in the end, two or three players went.

"That is when my childhood ended. The younger lads all left so I was the experienced one then. The president [Paolo Mantovani] died a year later, and that was the end of our Sampdoria."
