Italy midfielder Marco Verratti has been ruled out of Sunday's Euro 2016 qualifier against Croatia and Tuesday's friendly at home to Albania through injury.

The Paris Saint-Germain player left the Azzurri's training headquarters in Coverciano, Florence, on Wednesday morning and will return to the French capital to continue his recovery from a left adductor strain.

An official statement from the Italian Football Federation said: "Marco Verratti will return to France to continue the necessary treatment to recover from an insertional tendinopathy of his left adductor that had prevented him from training since Monday.''

The 22-year-old, who has scored one goal in 10 appearances for Italy, is expected to recover in time for PSG's Champions League Group F match against Ajax on Nov. 25.

Italy host Croatia at the San Siro on Sunday with both teams level at the top of Group H on nine points.

Antonio Conte's side then take on Albania two days later in a friendly in Genoa.
