Brazil legend Zico to coach Indian Super League squad Goa

NEW DELHI -- Brazilian great Zico has been signed to coach Goa in the new eight-team Indian Super League next month.

Goa said in a statement on Tuesday that Zico signed the contract in Rio de Janeiro, and were "honored" to have him. His most recent manager position was at Al-Gharafa in Qatar, which he left in January, six months into a two-year deal.

Alessandro Del Piero, Robert Pires, David Trezeguet, Fredrik Ljungberg and Luis Garcia are among the big names signed for the inaugural ISL running from Oct. 12 to Dec. 20.

Del Piero's decision to play in India came under fire in his native Italy, as two Italian military personnel are currently imprisoned in India.

Former India cricket captains Sachin Tendulkar and Sourav Ganguly, and a clutch of Indian film actors, have stakes in different ISL teams.
