Italy's 2006 World Cup-winning captain Fabio Cannavaro says he would like to return to Italy and coach in Serie A in the long term, after seeing Italy lift the World Cup this summer.

Cannavaro currently works as an assistant to Cosmin Olaroiu at Al-Ahly, while studying to obtain his coaching badges. Once he does have all of the necessary qualifications, the 40-year-old would like nothing more than to return to Italy to launch his coaching career.
"Definitely," Cannavaro told FIFA Weekly when asked if he had ambition to coach in Italy one day. "I'm Italian and the privilege of working in my home country would fill me with pride. However, the opportunity to work in a variety of countries, learning new cultures and footballing mentalities, is also very valuable.
"The role of coach and sporting director really suits me now. I sense the drive to put my ideas into practice."
Cannavaro ended his playing days in 2011, five years after lifting the World Cup as Italy captain and over time has become acutely aware of how the triumph has helped to define his career.
"Now, eight years later, I'm properly conscious of what this World Cup triumph has made out of a group of ordinary players -- namely legends," Cannavaro said. "It could even be that I feel it even more strongly now than I did at the Olympic Stadium in Berlin."
Gianluigi Buffon was alongside Cannavaro picking up the ultimate trophy in world football that evening almost eight years ago and Cannavaro would love to see the current Italy captain follow in his footsteps in Brazil this summer.
He said: "Italy are a strong team and Cesare Prandelli is a very good coach. I hope the lads can bring home the trophy."
