Napoli alone in first after Juve held; Roma beat AC Milan; Inter in second

Napoli extended their Serie A record this season to seven straight wins with a comfortable 3-0 victory over Cagliari to keep them top of the table.

Maurizio Sarri's side, who made light work of the Sardinians, started the weekend top on goal difference from Juventus and are now two points clear.

Marek Hamsik, Dries Mertens -- from the penalty spot -- and Kalidou Koulibaly wrapped up a routine win as Napoli scored at least three goals for the 11th successive time in the league.

In the late game, Paulo Dybala missed a penalty as Juventus surrendered their 100 percent record, drawing 2-2 at Atalanta.

It looked like business as usual for the reigning champions when Federico Bernardeschi and Gonzalo Higuain scored inside the opening half hour, but Juve-bound Mattia Caldara made it interesting with a Nerazzurri response before the interval.

Mario Mandzukic later had a goal ruled out by the video assistant referee before Bryan Cristante levelled with a header.

Then, with only minutes remaining, Dybala blasted straight at Etrit Berisha after Andrea Petagna handled a free kick, with the result leaving Juve in second place and Napoli in sole possession of first.

Roma struck a blow to AC Milan's plans to recapture past glories by downing the new-look Rossoneri 2-0 at the San Siro.

A full-strength Milan team boasting the likes of Leonardo Bonucci, Andre Silva and Hakan Calhanoglu -- the Turkey midfielder was later sent off -- could not resist a gritty attacking display from Roma, who struck twice in the second half through Edin Dzeko and the fit-again Alessandro Florenzi.

Dzeko grabbed his eighth goal of the season in all competitions when breaking Gianluigi Donnarumma's resolve and expansive wing-back Florenzi promptly doubled Roma's advantage with his first league strike in almost 18 months.

Roma are just outside the Champions League places in fifth, while Milan are in seventh on 12 points.

Marcelo Brozovic scored two goals in the space of three minutes to secure Inter Milan a 2-1 victory over Benevento and move them up into a tie for second with Juve.

Brozovic opened the scoring in the 19th minute as he arrived in the box to head home an Antonio Candreva cross, and just three minutes later he added a second, bending a fine free kick into the top corner.

Marco D'Alessandro pulled one back for Benevento just before half-time, finishing into the bottom corner following a fast break -- ending a 567-minute goal drought for the club in Serie A -- but the home side were unable to find an equaliser in the second half, with Inter holding on to record a sixth league win from seven games this season.

Lazio are just inside the top-four ahead of the international break after thrashing Sassuolo 6-1 at the Stadio Olimpico.

Luis Alberto scored twice and set up Stefan de Vrij for another, with Marco Parolo also bagging a brace in response to Domenico Berardi's opener from the penalty spot.

Ciro Immobile, who went into the match with 12 goals in all competitions, added late gloss with a spot kick after he was fouled by Luca Mazzitelli.

Ten-man Hellas Verona plundered two late goals to secure a 2-2 draw and stop Torino climbing into the Europa League spots.

Iago Falque and M'Baye Niang scored before half-time to heap further woe on Verona, winless following promotion, but there was a point on offer for the Gialloblu and they seized it when on-loan Juve forward Moise Kean and veteran striker Giampaolo Pazzini, from the spot, struck at the death to make it 2-2.

There was more drama when, seven minutes into stoppage time, Verona's Bruno Zuculini saw red for fouling Lyanco.

Lucas Castro's double was enough for Chievo to bounce back and beat Fiorentina 2-1 after Giovanni Simeone had fired a sixth-minute goal for the Viola.

Elsewhere, Crotone's Simy denied SPAL the chance to end a run of four straight defeats with a win as he replied to substitute Alberto Paloschi's strike to make it 1-1 in Ferrara.
