Inter Milan face partial stadium closure after racial chanting vs. Napoli

Inter Milan face having to play a Serie A fixture with part of the San Siro closed after racial chanting was heard during their recent 2-0 win over Napoli.

According to a Lega Serie A disciplinary statement, "The majority of the roughly 6,000 supporters in the 'secondo anello verde' area of the stadium aimed an insulting chant [monkey noise] towards Napoli's No. 26 [Kalidou Koulibaly], expressing racial discrimination."

As a result, the league's disciplinary panel will order Inter to "play one game with the 'secondo anello verde' closed to spectators" if there are any further incidents of racial discrimination in the period of one year from now.

The same sanction was imposed on Juventus earlier this week after insulting chants were heard during the 4-0 win over Palermo last weekend.

While Inter's 2-0 win over Napoli revived their hopes of catching third-placed Roma and qualifying for the Champions League next season, a 1-0 defeat at Genoa in midweek has seen them fall seven points behind the Giallorossi with four games of the season remaining.

Roberto Mancini's men will therefore be hoping for a favour from Napoli when they face Roma on Monday evening, with Inter able to narrow the gap to four points by beating Udinese on Saturday.

The Nerazzurri's final three games see them travel to Lazio, host Empoli and then travel to Sassuolo, while Roma go to Genoa, host Chievo and then end the season at AC Milan.
