AC Milan must follow Juventus' lead, difficult as it may be, says Kaka

Former FIFA World Player of the Year Kaka says AC Milan must follow Juventus' example if the San Siro side want to recapture their standing among world football's elite.

Juventus have risen from the ashes since being relegated for their part in the Calciopoli match-fixing scandal that rocked Italian football in 2006, winning four consecutive Serie A titles and reaching the Champions League final in 2015 since returning to Italy's top flight.

Milan were a disappointing 10th in Serie A last season, their worst finish in Italy since the 1997-98 campaign. And the seven-time European champions currently sit eighth in the table, 12 points away from leaders Napoli.

The club has also experienced a mass exodus of its most talented players, with the likes of Zlatan Ibrahimovic and defender Thiago Silva departing along with Kaka in recent years. However the 2007 Ballon d'Or winner believes rivals Juventus have shown the way back to the top, if they're willing to follow.

"It's hard to say from afar what's wrong with Milan," Kaka, was was sold by the Rossoneri to Real Madrid for €65 million in the summer of 2009, told Sky Italia on Monday.

"The Rossoneri are going through a negative cycle, but I'm sure they will rise again.

"Juventus have to be the example, for the way they came from Serie B to the Champions League final. I know it's hard to follow the example of another team in the same country, but that's what you have to do sometimes."
