Pato could sign with Italian clubs, says agent Riccardo Napolitano

The agent for former Brazil international Alexandre Pato has revealed two or three Serie A clubs are in the running to land the Sao Paulo forward in January.

Pato has seen a once flagging career resurrected since moving back to Brazil in January of 2013, first with Corinthians, which own his rights, and most recently with Sao Paulo, where he has recaptured the form that once made him one of world football's top young prospects before injuries sidetracked his development.

Still only 26, the former AC Milan man is set to move back across the Atlantic once his loan at Sao Paulo ends in the new year, with a return to Italy possibly in the cards.

"Alexandre is back and determined to establish himself as one of the best strikers in the world," Pato's agent Riccardo Napolitano told Calciomercato on Friday.

"We're evaluating several options for him, he's a striker admired by many, and he's completely overcome the muscular problems he suffered in the past few years.

"In Italy there are at least two or three teams among the possible destinations, but of course we can't say any more. The only thing that is certain is that Pato will be the undoubted star of the winter transfer market."

In addition the Italian clubs, Premier League club Arsenal had been credited with an interest in Pato, but sources last month told ESPN FC the Gunners are unlikely to pursue a move.

Tottenham and Liverpool have also been linked with the former Internacional man and they are aware that the player is available for around £11 million in the January transfer window.

Corinthians denied earlier this month that they had agreed a deal with Liverpool for Pato and it remains to be seen if Reds boss Jurgen Klopp is looking to bolster his attacking options in January after recently admitting he might wait until the summer before making any signings at Anfield.

Tottenham are in the market for striking reinforcements in January and they could consider a move for Pato should they miss out on top target Saido Berahino.
