Luigi Delneri hired to replace Mandorlini at winless Verona

VERONA, Italy -- Luigi Delneri has been hired to replace Andrea Mandorlini as Hellas Verona coach.

Verona made the announcement on Tuesday, a day after firing Mandorlini with the club still winless after 14 Serie A matches and in last place.

The well-traveled Delneri established himself with Chievo Verona from 2000-04 and has also coached Roma, Palermo, Atalanta, Sampdoria, Juventus and most recently Genoa in 2012-13.

Verona's 3-2 loss at promoted Frosinone on Sunday was their third consecutive defeat.

Mandorlini took over Verona five years ago and brought the club up to Serie A from the third division.

"Mandorlini did a great job and I am inheriting a tough legacy," Delneri said. "It's up to us to give more value to his work. Unfortunately in football the results matter, with a little luck will we get back on track, with respect to the work he has already put in place."

Verona finished 10th and 13th in Serie A in 2014 and 2015, respectively.

It's the sixth coaching change in Serie A this season.
