The Sassuolo forward struck the only goal of the game in the 20th minute, a brilliant curled free-kick that left Juve goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon rooted to the spot.
Juve had defender Giorgio Chiellini sent off for a second yellow card in the 39th minute and could not find a way past Sassuolo keeper Gianluca Pegolo.
The outcome in Sassuolo, Juve's fourth loss in Serie A, has left the defending Italian champions 12th in the standings with 12 points from 10 games.

Chievo have now lost three games in a row and have dropped to 11th place.
Gonzalo Higuain scored in his fourth straight game to fire Napoli to a 2-0 home win over Palermo.
The Argentine put Napoli ahead with a 25-yard shot in the 39th minute. Higuain then saw his right-footed attempt on the hour hit the right post.
The hosts were again denied by the woodwork in the 73rd minute when substitute Dries Mertens' 12-yard strike rattled the left post.
Napoli finally doubled their lead 10 minutes from time when Allan set up Mertens in the box and the Belgian winger coolly struck past Palermo goalkeeper Stefano Sorrentino.
