Bankrupt Parma pull off shock win against Serie A leaders Juventus

Parma pulled off the biggest surprise of the Serie A season on Saturday as the crisis-hit club beat runaway leaders Juventus 1-0.

Jose Mauri scored the only goal of the game on the hour mark, while a string of fine saves from Parma goalkeeper Antonio Mirante also helped Roberto Donadoni's side to a memorable win.

Parma declared bankruptcy last month and their players have not been paid all season, but they have now strung a series of positive results together, with a 1-0 victory over Udinese midweek and last weekend's 1-1 draw at Inter.

They are still in last place, 10 points from safety, with nine matches remaining.

Juventus, who host Monaco in the Champions League on Tuesday, have a 14-point lead atop the table over Roma, who visit Torino on Sunday.

Inter picked up a morale-boosting 3-0 win at Hellas Verona to revive their slim hopes of qualifying for Europe next season.

Mauro Icardi, Rodrigo Palacio and an own goal from Evangelos Moras earned the Nerazzurri their first victory since Feb. 23, ending a run of five games without a win and taking them to within six points of sixth-placed Napoli, which may be good enough for a berth in the Europa League next season.

Despite losing, Verona remain 11 points clear of the relegation zone with nine games of the season remaining.

Genoa left Cagliari even deeper in relegation danger with a 2-0 win at the Stadio Luigi Ferraris.

Goals from M'Baye Niang and Iago Falque earned the Rossoblu all three points against a luckless Cagliari side, who hit the woodwork three times.

The win keeps Genoa in with an outside chance of making Europe next season, although Cagliari's hopes of staying up took a blow with five points separating them from Atalanta above the relegation zone, and the Bergamo club have a game in hand.
