De Martinis: Scorelines matter

The 24-year-old, whose previous contract was due to expire in 2015, has been attracting interest from clubs around Europe with Paris Saint-Germain touted as a potential destination.

However, he has underlined his commitment to the Giallorossi, who will end the Serie A season in second place, returning to the Champions League next season.

"It was a very, very laboured deal," Roma's director of sport Walter Sabatini told Sky Sport Italia. "In addition to being a big economic deal for the club, given the player's value, today's signature is also particularly significant since Pjanic was one of the first signings of the era under American ownership."

Pjanic joined Roma from French side Lyon in 2011. He has been an almost ever-present in Rudi Garcia's side this term, making 35 appearances and scoring six goals.

Pjanic has already figured in 92 Italian top-flight games and has been capped 46 times by his country, who he will be representing at the World Cup this summer.
