Banana thrown during Milan defeat

Atalanta coach Stefano Colantuono condemned the actions of a fan who threw a banana towards AC Milan defender Kevin Constant during his side's 2-1 win over the Rosssoneri on Sunday.

Paul: Milan hopes fade

In the 74th minute of the game, a banana was thrown onto the field from the area of the Stadio Atleti Azzurri d'Italia occupied by the home team's fans.

It landed not far away from Constant, although it was Nigel de Jong who picked it up before he and Philippe Mexes ironically applauded the spectators. He then threw it from the field.

"Whoever threw that banana should have a coconut thrown at him," Colantuono told Sky Sport Italia. "It's an unspeakable act and it's saddening because it ruins a day of celebration and fair play. We shouldn't be talking about things like that."

Milan boss Clarence Seedorf added: "I hope they find the culprit and do what they have to do."

The incident comes in the wake of the banana that was thrown at Barcelona full-back Dani Alves during a recent La Liga game at Villarreal. The Brazilian took a bite from the banana, and a subsequent social media campaign drew widespread attention, although there has been criticism over the lack of punishement Villarreal faced.
