AC Milan midfielder Michael Essien has been ruled out for around two weeks after picking up a thigh injury.

The Rossoneri announced on Thursday that Essien, 31, has injured his right thigh and “will undergo further tests in around 10 days' time.”

As a result, the Ghana international will be sidelined for Monday's Serie A visit to Genoa, while he is also likely to miss out on the home clash against Catania on April 13.

Essien has made six appearances for Milan since joining the club from Chelsea in January.

Clarence Seedorf’s side are currently languishing in 11th place, although they are undefeated in their last three games.
