Christian Maggio has collapsed lung

Italy and Napoli full-back Christian Maggio has been hospitalised with a collapsed lung after getting hit in the chest earlier this week in training.

Christian Maggio, right, suffered a collapsed lung when he was hit in the chest during training.

Napoli say Maggio was taken to a medical facility near their training centre after the squad returned from Portugal early Friday morning following a 1-0 loss to Porto in the Europa League -- in which Maggio did not play.

The club say Maggio will remain in hospital for 24 hours to have the affected lung drained, although it was unclear how long he'll be out of action.

The 32-year-old Maggio has 34 caps for Italy and played at the 2010 World Cup and 2012 Euros. He's facing competition to keep his spot for this year's World Cup.
