Osvaldo 'took wage cut' to join Juventus

Juventus coach Antonio Conte says "everybody wants to join Juventus" after welcoming new signing Pablo Daniel Osvaldo into his burgeoning attack.

Osvaldo was in the stands of the Juventus Stadium on Sunday night after arriving on a loan deal from Southampton on transfer deadline day.

He faces competition for a place in the team from no fewer than five other forwards, but Conte says the more the merrier after praising the Italy international for taking a cut in wages to join his club.

"It was an opportunity which we took," Conte told Italy's Sky Sport. "He desperately wanted to join Juventus, even reducing his wages to do so. He gives more strength to our attack. With Serie A and the Europa League, we needed to wake up the enthusiasm levels a bit up front; we need competition.

"Everybody wants to join Juventus, even reducing their wages. [Fredy Guarin] was also an opportunity, but that swap did not suit both clubs. I never made any kind of demands, but we were ready to take any opportunities and we're happy with the way things are."

The arrival of Osvaldo from Southampton seemed set to hasten the departure of Mirko Vucinic, yet the Montenegrin, originally part of that planned swap deal with Guarin, remained with Juve, much to the delight of midfielder Arturo Vidal.

"This side is like a family," said the Chilean. "It's important that Mirko stayed with us. He'll have us all to help him."

Vucinic appeared to have put any disappointment at not leaving the club behind him on Sunday night as he came off the bench and hit the post late on in a convincing 3-1 victory, earning a warm welcome from the fans at the Juventus Stadium.
