Livorno part company with Nicola

Livorno have parted company with their coach Davide Nicola in the wake of a 3-0 defeat at home to Parma -- their fourth loss in a row.

The Tuscan club announced Nicola's departure on Monday with president Aldo Spinelli saying yet again that he too will be leaving at the end of the season. It is not the first time Spinelli has threatened to sell the club that was promoted to the top flight last season.

"I like Davide a lot, but recently he has committed a few mistakes," Spinelli said in La Gazzetta dello Sport. "The team have switched off, they don't have any determination and, when they fall behind, they don't react. We needed to change things."

Attilio Perotti, who last coached in Serie A 10 years ago, is set to replace him.

"Perotti knows very well how things are here and he knows the players, who he has already saved once from relegation," Spinelli said.

Perotti coached Livorno at the end of the 2011-12 season, saving them from relegation to Serie C before being replaced by Nicola in the summer of 2012.

Spinelli is also looking for a replacement for himself next summer, when he expects his side to have been relegated.

"First of all, I want to save the club because I want to leave with a clean conscience," he said. "Whoever comes next year will have, in Serie B, a good number of players with whom they can aim at climbing straight back up.

"I've not lost all hope of avoiding relegation, but there is the possibility of returning to Serie B. It happens that you come up to Serie A and go back down again. What's important, though, is that you keep the books in order."

At the midway stage of the season, Livorno are second from the bottom of the table with 13 points, three away from safety.
