Andrea Pirlo set for new Juventus deal

Juventus hope to reach an agreement with Andrea Pirlo over a new contract in the near future, director general Beppe Marotta has said, while Paul Pogba could also sign a new deal.

Andrea Pirlo and Paul Pogba could both be in line for new contracts at Juventus.

The midfielder said earlier in the season that he would hold talks with the Serie A leaders in the spring and that, despite his current deal expiring in the summer, there was no rush agreeing new terms.

However, La Gazzetta dello Sport reports that the Bianconeri are drawing up a two-year extension for the 34-year-old, and Marotta hopes a deal will be in place shortly.

"Pirlo's contract us up for renewal, but I can tell you that we have an excellent relationship and we will be extending his contract as soon as possible, and we will let you know the duration," Marotta said.

According to the Gazzetta, Juve are to comply with Pirlo's request for at least a two-year contract rather than the one-year deals usually offered to players of his age. The Italy international, who was on the initial shortlist for the Ballon d'Or, remains an integral player for club and country.

So too is Paul Pogba, who is attracting attention from Paris Saint-Germain and a host of top clubs around Europe.

Marotta said: "He's a very good player and he's got the whole of Europe's eyes on him, but Juve are also a big club. We'll have a meeting with his entourage, with whom we have an excellent relationship, in the near future."

That meeting could well be to improve the France international's contract to ensure his worth to the club is also reflected in his pay packet. Pogba is not currently one of Juve's biggest earners since he joined on a free transfer from Manchester United in 2012 when he was not yet an established senior international.

His excellent form this season has ensured increased interest while consequently reducing the amount of action Claudio Marchisio has been given of late, but he too remains part of the Turin club's project.

"We've got a strong, useful squad and we don't want to sell any of our big players," Marotta added.
