Conte hits back at fresh allegations

Juventus coach Antonio Conte refused to discuss his side's 3-0 win over Avellino in the Coppa Italia with the media on Wednesday night out of protest at being once again linked with a match-fixing scandal.

Conte was banned for four months at the start of last season for failing to report the attempted manipulation of matches that he was understood to have known about while he was coach of Siena.

This week, former Siena player Ferdinando Coppola claimed Conte had "left it up to the players" whether or not to fix their game with Albinoleffe in 2011, while his assistant coach at the time, Cristian Stellini, alleged he was aware of the agreement.

"I will defend myself from anybody who is intent on damaging my dignity," Conte said. "Some media outlets give a lot of attention to my name in events which actually refer to other people.

"The reported declarations all relate to incidents for which I have already been subject to a sports trial, and for which I have already served a painful sentence. I will leave it on the conscience of everybody to evaluate the difference between informing and manipulating news."

Conte left the Juventus Stadium without passing any further comment on his side's victory, which sets up a last-16 tie with either Roma or Sampdoria in January.
