Zanetti would welcome Lavezzi deal

Ezequiel Lavezzi would be welcomed at Inter Milan with open arms, according to the player's compatriot Javier Zanetti.

The Argentinean is favourite to become the first new signing of Erick Thohir's era as president of the Nerazzurri, and Zanetti, 40, would be more than happy if the former Napoli player were to join in the winter.

"It's up to the club's owners to decide what's best for the side, but for me, it would be a real pleasure if he were to join the Nerazzurri," Zanetti said on the club's official website. "I don't think only I would be happy, but I think any side would be happy to have him."

Zanetti says he has not spoken to the Paris Saint-Germain forward about a potential transfer, although he has recognised his side's need to strengthen in attack. With summer signings Mauro Icardi and Ishak Belfodil failing to meet expectations, a new forward has been made the club's priority for the second half of the campaign.

"I think right now, we need everybody," Zanetti said. "The coach, together with the club, will then decide if a new striker is needed. We've just got to aim to finish these two remaining games we have before the winter break as well as we can, trying to get two wins which would be very important.

"I think the most important thing for Mauro is that he recovers from the injury he has had and that he returns to the form in which he can make his contribution because he's very important to us."
