Petkovic hails ruthless Napoli

Lazio coach Vladimir Petkovic believes Napoli’s ‘ruthlessness’ was the difference in the away side’s 4-2 victory over the Rome club.

Gonzalo Higuain celebrates
Gonzalo Higuain led Napoli to a 4-2 victory over Lazio.

Lazio fell to ninth on the Serie A table after two-goal hero Gonzalo Higuain inspired Napoli to break its three-game losing streak.

But despite admiring Napoli’s ability to make the most of its chances, Petkovic believed Lazio were “on par” with their visitors.

"We are lacking results at the moment, but we deserved more tonight," Petkovic told Sky Sport Italia.

"We made four mistakes at the back and Napoli took advantage of all of them with their ruthlessness. I tip my hat to them, because they didn't let us get away with anything.

"Our play was on a par with Napoli, but that was not enough.”

Meanwhile, Lazio’s defeat was met with whistles from the home crowd as the club have now won just once in nine league games.

But Petkovic remained calm about the supporters frustration, believing nothing was ‘broken’ between the club and its fans.

"The fan protest? I don't think anything has become broken between the team and the supporters,” Petkovic said. “The confrontation with the fans is necessary, whether positive or negative, because we must all be moving in the same direction.

“We deserved more tonight and have to be more efficient in proving that on the pitch.”
