Chievo sack Sannino after faltering start

Chievo have decided to part company with coach Giuseppe Sannino, in spite of an encouraging goalless draw with AC Milan at the weekend.

Palermo were relegated under Sannino last season
Giuseppe Sannino collected just six points from his 12 games as Chievo boss.

Former Flying Donkeys coach Eugenio Corini has been handed the job of succeeding him having saved the club from relegation last season before leaving in the summer due to differences in opinion over the club's future.

With the club currently rooted to the foot of Serie A, the Veronese club have called on Corini who, having proven his ability last season, is regarded as the man to guide them to safety once again.

"Chievo Verona announces that Giuseppe Sannino has been relieved of his duties as first-team coach," read a statement on Chievo’s official website on Tuesday.

"The club would like to express its thanks to the coach and his assistants for the effort, professionalism and dedication they have always shown while wishing them well in the continuation of their careers."

On the appointment of Corini, the club added: "AC Chievo Verona announces that it has entrusted the conduct of the First Team to Eugenio Corini.

"The agreement is reached on a biennial basis (two-year deal)."

Chievo have picked up just six points from their first 12 games of the season, winning only once against Udinese in September.

Sannino is the second Serie A coach to be dismissed in the space of two days, following on from Sampdoria's decision to sack Delio Rossi on Monday evening.
