Juventus, Napoli wins cut Roma's lead

Juventus and Napoli moved within two points of Roma at the top of Serie A and kept the pressure on with important wins.

Carlos Tevez celebrates after bagging Juve's fourth goal in their rout of Catania.
Carlos Tevez celebrates after scoring against Catania in Serie A.

Juventus scored two goals in each half to brush past Catania 4-0.

The defending champions were never in danger from the moment Arturo Vidal put them ahead in the 27th minute.

Andrea Pirlo added a second in the 34th minute, before Carlos Tevez (66) and Leonardo Bonucci (71) made extra sure.

Meanwhile, Napoli ran out 2-1 winners at Fiorentina.

Jose Callejon put the visitors in front in the 12th minute, but Giuseppe Rossi levelled from the penalty spot.

Dries Mertens completed the scoring 10 minutes before half-time before both sides lost men to red cards, Christian Maggio for the visitors and Juan Cuadrado for the hosts, as Fiorentina lost at home for the first time this season.

French defender Michael Ciani grabbed his first Serie A goal for Lazio to deny AC Milan a fourth league victory at the San Siro this season.

The result, a 1-1 draw, was hardly one either side needed given the gap that has opened up to the top three, in particular with second-placed Napoli and Juventus in third both enjoying wins.

Udinese ended their dismal run on the road this season with a 2-1 triumph against 10-man Sassuolo.

Antonio Di Natale put the visitors ahead in the 18th minute from the penalty spot before Simone Zaza pulled Sassuolo level before the half-hour mark.

Luis Muriel scored the winner in the 56th minute.

Genoa picked up their second win in four games since coach Gian Piero Gasperini returned to the club thanks to a solitary goal from Alberto Gilardino in a 1-0 win against Parma at the Stadio Luigi Ferraris.

Gilardino also missed a penalty in the first half while the visitors had a goal disallowed in a scrappy encounter before the former Parma forward decided the game in the 57th minute.

A late penalty from Alessio Cerci rescued a point for Torino in a thrilling 3-3 draw against Livorno at the Armando Picchi stadium.

Livorno looked to be heading for victory after coming back from two goals down only to see another twist in the match when Cerci converted the spot-kick following substitute Leandro Rinaudo's handball three minutes from time.

Hellas Verona continued their fine home form with a 2-0 victory over Sampdoria.

Juan Gomez opened the scoring in the 51st minute before veteran striker Luca Toni put the game beyond Sampdoria's reach 12 minutes from time.

Bologna claimed an important win as they defeated 10-man Cagliari 3-0.

Gyorgy Garics scored the opening goal in the 26th minute and Cagliari's cause was not helped shortly after the break when Nicola Murru was sent off for his second bookable offence.

The home side were unable to rally and Panagiotis Kone extended Bologna's lead in the 58th minute before Michele Pazienza added the third in a two-minute spell that killed off the game.
