Catania have fired manager Rolando Maran and hired Luigi De Canio after just one win in their opening eight Serie A matches.
The Sicilian club made the announcement on its website Sunday.
On Saturday, Catania squandered a lead in a 2-1 loss at Cagliari, leaving the club joint third from bottom with promoted Sassuolo.
Last season, Maran guided Catania to eighth place, its best finish in Serie A, one spot ahead of Inter Milan.
De Canio has coached Siena and Genoa in recent seasons.
Maran's firing marks the second coaching change in Serie A this season after Gian Piero Gasperini replaced Fabio Liverani at Genoa after six rounds.
