Juventus, Torino in Twitter row

Torino have become embroiled in an internet row with Juventus after their derby defeat, claiming the winning goal should have been disallowed for offside.

  Rzouki: Job done for Juventus

Paul Pogba's strike earned the Bianconeri a 1-0 victory at the Stadio Olimpico on Sunday, but Torino said the strike should not have stood because Carlos Tevez was offside in the build-up.

Initially, Torino coach Giampiero Ventura had said only: "I hope it wasn't offside, as it would be another difficult situation to comment on" -- and after being shown footage he declined to say anything more.

However, he criticised Juve coach Antonio Conte's defensive response to the controversy, in which he claimed Ciro Immobile should have been shown a red card for a challenge on Tevez and hinted that his side would have found a way to score against only ten men.

Torino were more outspoken on their official website, saying: “If an identical foul by Pogba on (Omar) El Kaddouri had been sanctioned with a red card, as well as the two yellow cards (Claudio) Marchisio deserved, what would have happened?

“The truth is, Juventus won the derby 1-0, and that goal was from a blatant offside position.”

The website posting also questioned Conte’s affirmation that his side had “attacked for 70 minutes of the game”. Referring to the official match statistics published by the Lega Serie A , showing Juve with 52% of possession compared to Torino’s 48%, it concluded by questioning Conte’s calculation skills.

“Certainly, Conte was better at Italian than he was at maths at school,” it said.

The battle continued on the two clubs’ official Twitter channels, Juve claiming that they can add up as far as zero -- the number of Torino shots on target. Torino’s reply did not take long in arriving, and said: “Don’t beat yourself up, you’ve managed to count up to 31 (oops, 29),” referring to Juve’s claims that they have won the Scudetto 31 times.

Tevez also waded in, tweeting a picture of his ankle after the challenge by Immobile. The injury sustained could rule him out of Juve’s Champions League tie with Galatasaray on Wednesday.
