Inter punished for racist abuse

Inter Milan have been ordered to play their next home match with one end of the San Siro closed as punishment for racist taunts by fans directed at Juventus players.

The two teams played out a 1-1 draw on Saturday -- the latest instalment of the grand fixture known as the Derby d'Italia -- with the game marred by certain Inter fans racially abusing Juventus duo Paul Pogba and Kwadwo Asamoah.

The sanction will apply for Inter's home match against Fiorentina on September 26. The Nerazzurri were also fined €15,000.

It becomes the third occasion on which a team will play with part of their stadium closed due to fan racism in Serie A this season.

Lazio were handed the same sanction for their opening match at home to Udinese after racist chants in the Italian Super Cup against Juventus, while Roma were also penalised for their second match of the season after racism from fans towards AC Milan players at the back end of last season.
